“Will the real women please stand up,” stated the fiery State Representative Alisha Thomas-Morgan, as she kicked off Chit Chat Communications 4th annual women’s history month celebration, C. Morrison Presents… “Celebrating Women of Color” A Tribute To Rosa Parks & Coretta Scott King.  The electrifying program took place Wednesday, March 1, at the Barnes & Noble at Camp Creek, with inspiring poetry readings, feel good music and powerful speeches from both State Representative Morgan and Ms. Black Georgia USA.

Morgan’s inspiring speech touched the large crowd of this year’s women’s history month program, as she spoke of Rosa Parks’ courage to stand up, by sitting down. And Ms. King’s strength to continue moving forward with her husband’s dream after his assassination. Morgan asked the audience to share in a moment of silence for the two civil rights icons that recently made their transition and also spoke of the importance of knowing your history and getting involved with the political process. Morgan’s fiery actions, has kept her in the media on a regular basis and she even humored the crowd as she spoke of her widely televised debut of her outburst, while on the house floor of the State Legislation, to the Legislative House Speaker Glen Richardson, about the Voter ID Bill, as she sung, “Ain’t nobody going turn me around, turn me around, turn me around….”

Greetings were brought by Ms. Black Georgia USA, Tiffany Willis, whose platform focuses on empowering and inspiring at-risk youth. Although she is an accomplished Certified Public Accountant, Willis says her greatest accomplishment is her work with Angela’s House, a home for young girls who have been sexually exploited.

Author of “Shades of Mandingo”, Brenda M. Tillman created a special poem, “Women of The Movement, Sisters of The Struggle”, as a salute to Parks & King.  And 19-year old Ashton Fortune performed a powerful piece titled “Throw Up Your Fist” and by the end of her poem the entire audience had their fist in the air.  “We need to know each others history…,” said Fortune.  Poet Extraordinaire Kaleem Shakir graced the audience with his poem “Nubian Princess” and R&B group Ignysh’n saluted the ladies with an original song dedicated to Rosa Parks & Coretta Scott King.

The enriching program was produced by Carla Morrison, President of Chit Chat Communications and Executive Producer of C. Morrison Presents… the community relations division of CCC.  Morrison is already planning the 5th annual women’s history month program, where she is going to host an awards luncheon at the 755 Club or Omni Hotel.  Log onto: www.chitchatcommunications.com for updates on this annual program and other events.
